Getting Started

This guide walks you through creating your first dataset and chatbot on Village Data.

Prerequisites​

  • A Village Data account (sign up with Google)
  • Data to upload (CSV, Excel, or JSON file)

Step 1: Create a Dataset​

  1. Navigate to My Datasets from the sidebar
  2. Click Create Dataset
  3. Give your dataset a name and description
  4. Upload your data file
  5. Review the preview and click Create

Your dataset is now in draft status. You can edit and refine it before publishing.

Step 2: Publish Your Dataset​

Once you're happy with your dataset:

  1. Open the dataset details
  2. Click Publish
  3. Your dataset is now visible to others (if set to public)

Step 3: Create a Chatbot​

  1. Navigate to My Chatbots from the sidebar
  2. Click Create Chatbot
  3. Configure your chatbot:
    • Name: Give it a descriptive name
    • System Prompt: Define how the chatbot should behave
    • Datasets: Connect one or more datasets
  4. Click Create

Step 4: Test Your Chatbot​

  1. Open your chatbot
  2. Start a conversation in the chat interface
  3. Ask questions related to your connected datasets
  4. The chatbot will use RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to find relevant information

Step 5: Share Your Chatbot​

When you're ready to share:

  1. Set the chatbot type to Public
  2. Change status to Published
  3. Share the chatbot URL with others
